Description:
In the update from v2.6.38.7 to v2.6.38.8, the kernel's Arch logo (logo_linux_clut224.ppm) at bootup disappeared!
We now have the stock penguin logo shipped with linux.

It used to be included in the -ARCH patch.

I'm not the only one who would like it back! That's the non-rational reason.
Rational reason: as long as the kernel in our repositories will be patched with the -ARCH patch, this should be made clear by displaying our logo. :)

The stock kernels in AUR (such as kernel26-mainline) display the tux logo, and that's fine: it's vanilla.

All the best

"it's only shown on vesa fb which is not widely used anymore"

It shows up here on every machine with nvidia prop. driver. Nvidia graphic cards have a market share > 20 % ;)

Please give us back the arch logo!

Or as an alternative: disable it. I not want to see these penguins everytime I boot my machine. =)

Edit: Just add logo.nologo to /boot/grub/menu.lst as described here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=482003#p482003 .. problem solved =)

Actually, it's shown while using the screen's native resolution in GRUB2! (the kernel keeps the mode that grub2 has set, until the KMS is triggered if any)

For people who don't have the KMS (including those who use the proprietary ati/nvidia drivers), it's displayed during the whole boot.

So it's displayed for a lot of people, not only those who use vesafb.

The arch logo is beautiful! I'd really like it back on my vesafb!

Ok guys, what the hell !? Are you gonna tell me the Arch-logo isn't KISS ? The argument against the beautiful, awesome, class, blue, cool, sexy Arch-logo was "Please remove the Arch-logo branding tux replacement." so OK GUY LET'S DO IT. According to me, it's kinda insane. So, I'll just say : "Please remove the tux branding Arch-logo replacement."

God save the Archlogo.

-1 since its an uneeded addition of a feature to upstream sources and also branding and as such since its gone, let it be this way.
It will make things easier for derivatives who might not wish to compile another {un,re}branded kernel anymore.

+1 I want it back too :P
And I see it with my nvidia card :)

I think Greg (dolby) has stated most compelling arguments/reasons for leaving as is now.
