Description:
In the update from v2.6.38.7 to v2.6.38.8, the kernel's Arch logo (logo_linux_clut224.ppm) at bootup disappeared! We now have the stock penguin logo shipped with linux. It used to be included in the -ARCH patch. I'm not the only one who would like it back! That's the non-rational reason. Rational reason: as long as the kernel in our repositories will be patched with the -ARCH patch, this should be made clear by displaying our logo. :) The stock kernels in AUR (such as kernel26-mainline) display the tux logo, and that's fine: it's vanilla. All the best |
This task depends upon
- removed custom arch boot logo,
it's only shown on vesa fb which is not widely used anymore
It shows up here on every machine with nvidia prop. driver. Nvidia graphic cards have a market share > 20 % ;)
Please give us back the arch logo!
FS#24513https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=940787
Edit: Just add logo.nologo to /boot/grub/menu.lst as described here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=482003#p482003 .. problem solved =)
For people who don't have the KMS (including those who use the proprietary ati/nvidia drivers), it's displayed during the whole boot.
So it's displayed for a lot of people, not only those who use vesafb.
God save the Archlogo.
It will make things easier for derivatives who might not wish to compile another {un,re}branded kernel anymore.
And I see it with my nvidia card :)
