Description:

Today's update of chromium seriously broke the password manager (at least on my laptop).

First, all the account information/passwords that I had were deleted.

Additionally, I can no longer store new passwords. When it offers to save them and I say yes it _says_ is is saved, but it is not. When I *Add* one
from the password manager it appears to save it, but it will not use it for auto-filling, and it disappears when I relaunch the application.
If I import from a CSV file it's the same thing: it _looks_ like it has been saved, but it disappears when I relaunch.

This is a serious bummer@!

Additional info:
* package version(s)

117.0.5938.62-1

* config and/or log files etc.

As far as configuration, I have:

* Disabled all extensions
* Deleted all cookies and site data
* Ensured that it is configured to ask to save passwords and to use them for auto-filling.
* Deleted ~/.cache/chromium
* Made sure the correct permissions in ~/.config/chromium

I could find no upstream bugs (at https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/list)

Steps to reproduce:

It has happened every time I try to save a password via any method

Have you looked at  FS#79394 ?
Comment by Mark Conway Wirt (mcw) - Thursday, 14 September 2023, 22:20 GMT
I didn't see that ticket, but when I try the proposed solution -- starting chromium with --password-store=gnome-libsecret -- I observe the same behavior.

Also, downgrading to 115.0.5790.170-2 did *not* fix things (and this version worked before), so the issue may be caused by a more subtle interaction between another piece of software.

The only package I see that could potentially be related and was installed today was signon-kwallet-extension, but as I don't use KDE, this seems unlikely. I'll downgrade it just to make sure.

Yes, I tried downgrading the kwallet extension, and no joy.

Saving passwords is working fine in the general case. I just tested in a freshly installed VM and can see no problem i.e. cannot repro.

Seeing as there is no indication here of an Arch packaging issue here, you are best advised to take this to the proper Arch support channels (Forum/IRC/Mailing Lists/Reddit/etc) to seek some troubleshooting assistance from the experts there. If an Arch packaging issue ends up being identified, then of course please come back here and share the details.
