Steps to reproduce:
1. Using KDE on Xorg, run Firefox or Thunderbird with GTK_USE_PORTAL=1
2. Download some file
3. It seems to be using a fallback Qt portal instead of the KDE one

Rebuilding these four packages (in the order of qt5-base -> qt5-wayland -> xdg-desktop-portal-kde) didn't help. I had to downgrade the Qt5 ones.

It did crash. I can see the same logs and Firefox and Thunderbird are using that fallback save dialogue again.

However systemctl --user status plasma-xdg-desktop-portal-kde.service reported ok, and journalctl -b --user-unit plasma-xdg-desktop-portal-kde.service:

The SaveFile logs was me saving the email to file in Thunderbird.

If I run systemctl --user restart plasma-xdg-desktop-portal-kde.service, the issue is immediately gone. I don't even need to restart Firefox or Thunderbird. (On the other hand just restarting Firefox or Thunderbird didn't help at all.)

I think what's weird is that D-Bus suddenly started launching org.freedesktop.* services for uid=996 (sddm). It used to be always uid=1000 and uid=1000 only.

Not the only app that crashes btw. I have exactly the same issue at least with kactivitymanagerd.

systemd[783]: Failed to start KActivityManager Activity manager Service.
kactivitymanagerd[3160]: This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

@arojas I still have to restart plasma-xdg-desktop-portal-kde.service otherwise the file picker doesn't respect my screen scaling.

And it seems some websites like bugs.kde.org and Twitter rely on this to tell if they should apply dark themes? I have to restart plasma-xdg-desktop-portal-kde.service to make this work as well.

firefox won't show the proper theme either if its set to follow the system theme.and if you use widget.use-xdg-desktop-portal.file-picker it won't work either to use the qt filepicker in firefox.
