Xsane and other gui frontends to sane do not work with the canon lide30 scanner. Scanimage works properly and the scanner is detected. However xsane does not work. It seems that the frontend just cannot communicate with the scanner even though it is detected. I think this problem is only related to the canon lide30 scanner.
This task depends upon

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=27897 is where this problem went public first.

I have now tested the Canon "lide30" on four different computers. Two with intel motherboards and intel chipsets, one with and intel motherboard and ATI chipsets. and one with a VIA chipset. The results are the same scanimage works but the gui frontends do not. Seems that the problem is related to how the gui frontends communicate with sane.

Also add the models CanoScan LiDE 20 and 25, they don't work either anymore. ( bug 6283 )

Closed  bug 6383  and  bug 6283  as duplicates of this one. I think it's isolated to canon scanners, as my HP AIO device works fine with xsane as frontend.

ok guys just connected a lide 30 here, with having it connected it during boot it doesn't work.
Reconnecting it makes it work, don't know where the error is though :/

Can't reproduce this with a CanoScan LiDE25. Are you sure, that this wasn't chance? Because sometimes it works with the frontends anyway, but mostly not. I also can't believe that the error is related to the USB-dis/connect, since the backend scanimage always works and XSane & Co. search for devices on every program startup.

My problem that the scan mechanism didn't move back to the starting position after preview scanning was solved (thanks, dojo): http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=239175#p239175
Is it a bug in kernel compiling?

The same is happening here with an AGFA SnapScan 1212u. Also, I noticed that, when I boot, the scanner inicialisation sequence becomes interrupted. scanimage works, but I must turn off and on the scanner after I scan a page. I haven't tested yet the solution in http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=239175#p239175 .

Hello again. Is there any chance to the kernel to be compiled without the CONFIG_USB_SUSPEND=y option? 2 kernel packages appeared after my post and the situation with the scanner remains the same.

well if you would have posted the solution right her to the bug report it would be implemented much sooner, sorry i don't read the forum in that detail. new kernel uploaded and also uploaded new sane package, have fun.
