I'll add it to optdepends if that is fine with you? I don't want to pull in too much deps for people who only want to run it outside X11.

Yes, do add gnuplot to optdepends or put a big fat warning that it will be needed to make plots :)

Hm, I am fine with everything you decide, but I think gnuplot also can be used without having X.
