Description:
After yesterday's system update, Arch no longer spins down the HDD during poweroff. When shutting down my laptop, power is abruptly cut from the HDD, causing an emergency head retract and a corresponding loud noise A few other users have reported this on reddit as well. The problem does not occur on other OSes installed on this machine. I reinstalled Arch today to see if problem persists. The emergency head retract does not occur when powering off from within the installer. However, it continues to happen every time I do a shutdown from within the installed system. Additional info: * Version: linux-lts kernel 6.5.8 * Possibly related: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205107 Steps to reproduce: 1. Shut down computer. 2. After power is cut off, HDD does a loud emergency head retract. |
