This is filed against coreutils but it's clearly a kernel issue (the journal message is from the kernel). The kernel "dump" is not actually an error e.g. see [1]. It's just an "INFO" message that something is amiss with your I/O. It sounds like a possible kernel regression. Usual advice is to try different kernels (LTS, mainline, etc) and follow the usual debugging steps [2]. You might have to contact the kernel folks. Please let us know what you find out.

The linux-lts kernel 6.1.31-1 gives no errors.
Now, how to figure out the difference between Arch's 6.3.4-arch2-1 (bad) and 6.1.31-1-lts (good) ?

Upgraded to linux 6.3.5 today.
Reformatted usb key to a new fs and restored data onto it.
Well, the error disappeared.
