Steps to reproduce:

1. Invoke a new instance of tmux

Cannot repro in a fresh VM with [*-testing] enabled and by following your steps. There must be more to it...

Edit: correction, it doesn't repro in a ssh login but it *does* repro on the standard console.

Following the advice on this page [1], I ran `tmux -vv new' and the very last line of the copious log file reads:

fatal: could not expand Ss

Possibly related to latest ncurses update...(adding PM notification).

Should be fixed by tmux 3.3_a-5... Can anybody test and verify?

Did something go wrong in the cherry-pick? The last hunk for tty_term_string_ss adds the four lines for the debug message without deleting two line which exit.

Ouch... Please test tmux 3.3_a-6 then... 😝

Oh, damn... Did not build in testing. 🙈
Let's hope tmux 3.3_a-7 is fine.

The repro steps no longer repro. 3.3_a-7 is looking a lot better :)
