Details

I'm unable to start any VM using VirtualBox, this is the only relevant info I found in the journal.

VirtualBox itself just gets stuck at "Starting VM...".

You are running recent Intel hardware? I guess this is a duplicate of  FS#74891 ...
Can you boot with ibt=off and try again?

Yes this is it, adding that kernel parameter solved the issue.
