Description:
Entire programs often take on blurry fonts as soon as certain characters are displayed, and some seemingly arbitrary text fields become garbled. It occurs seemingly randomly, but often enough to cause confusion and annoyance. This has been reproduced on at least 4 separate Arch machines. I can confirm for sure that downgrading `noto-fonts` and only `noto-fonts` (not its split packages or variants) resolves it. I'm not sure if this is an upstream issue or some kind of fontconfig packaging issue. Additional info: * good in 20201226-2, bad in 20220502-1 * happens on both wayland and xorg, and both sway and kde Steps to reproduce: * **(most reliable way to reproduce it)** Display some Japanese kanji, specifically "夏". It appears blurry and with a serif font despite others appearing normally. This does not occur when "Noto Sans CJK JP" is explicitly selected in an application; only when picked automatically as the fallback. See attachment for screenshot. * Occasionally for an unknown reason, Firefox tab titles or webpage content may appear garbled (blank spots in the middle of words). This happened on this page as I'm writing this. * The same might occur in the KDE Plasma application launcher. |
