Details
When I try to install Arch/Duke on this PC I am typing into
right now, /dev/hda is nonexistent, even though it boots off
the CD and gets to a root install shell fine. Arch/0.8
didn't get to a shell at all. Foresight Linux dmesg
attached.

This task depends upon
dmesg.txt
could be a kernel bug, do you have more about your hardware? like lspci and the modalias of your disk controller
please try this iso it uses latest available kernel on kernel.org
