It's an optdep of gdk-pixbuf2 which has 4-5 more such optional deps. Seems wrong to duplicate these in ristretto (even if it raises their visibility).

Hmm, yes. Could all 5 be in a metapackage where gdk-pixbuf2 clients can just list that? Probably more trouble than it's worth though.

Let's keep it as is. If we start to cover optional dependencies with meta packages our repositories would be flooded...

The optional dependencies are listed by pacman on initial installation, and on upgrade if they change. Actually reading these messages is a good idea. 😉
