Since ftp.archlinux.org has been throttled, I think it could be useful for Arch users to specify which protocols are supported by each mirror on the download mirrors page (http://www.archlinux.org/download/). Something like :
ftp.archlinux.org United States FTP HTTP
mir1.archlinuxfr.org France FTP HTTP RSYNC
Since there are not too much mirrors, it could be possible to contact each mirror's admin. And, why not, temporarily write something like <unspecified> or <waiting for response> next to mirrors whose admin didn't answer yet...
What do you think ?

Reason for closing:  Fixed
Additional comments about closing:  I did some cleanup on the mirror list page that incorporated this change. The template code looks like a walt whitman poem (random line breaks in all the wrong places), but the user interface is niclier.

If you can gather all the information needed and put it into a table, I would be more than willing to update that page accordingly.

All up to date information about mirrors is available at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors

Should we not just link to that page then?

Yeah, we can just add something like 'You can also download ISOs via FTP/HTTP/rsync from /iso/ directory on <a href="http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors">mirrors</a>'
to http://www.archlinux.org/download/ instead of incomplete and outdated mirrorlist.

Sounds fine with me.
We should probably pose this to the dev-pub list...

This has fallen by the wayside a bit lately, as other things have come up.
However, it is still on my tasklist, and still on my radar for implementation.

Now that the mirror list has moved out of the filesystem and into the database, future refactoring should be a bit easier.

just a reminder ;)

Quick poke here, most of this info is actually in the database now, it just isn't displayed anywhere nice and pretty.
Comment by Dusty Phillips (Dusty) - Monday, 23 June 2008, 21:59 GMT
Its going to require a small db refactor because the current mirrors model wouldn't allow us to have different urls for the same mirrors.

eg: the gatech mirror uses ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu for ftp and www.gtlib.gatech.edu for http.

I may close this with #10688 and create a new ticket to completely redefine the mirrors interface.

Status: not implemented.
Comment by Dan McGee (toofishes) - Sunday, 08 February 2009, 01:39 GMT
This is all taken care of in the new mirror listing model.
Comment by Greg (dolby) - Friday, 13 February 2009, 13:49 GMT
This is fixed. Can it maybe be implemented differently? Now theres 2 entries for a mirror supporting HTTP & FTP. eg. aarnet.edu.au (http) & the second one aarnet.edu.au (ftp)
Can it changed to eg. aarnet.edu.au (HTTP) (FTP) in 1 line?
Comment by Dusty Phillips (Dusty) - Friday, 13 February 2009, 14:12 GMT
yeah, I'll try to update it next month.

I think this becomes moot if mirrorbrain gets through (http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/pacman-dev/2009-March/008422.html)
