Description:

In a rash decision, the next version mpv will use a incorrect non-compliant default config location, that can bring confusion to new users and deprecate a lot of unofficial documentation and Arch Wiki.

Currently there is an effort to revert this commit, but with no avail until now: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/pull/7978. If this commit is not reversed, the wise thing to do is patch downstream and make mpv use XDG_CONFIG_HOME again.

Additional comments about closing:  Upstream development decisions are not an archlinux packaging bug. We will package it as upstream intended.

Complain to upstream. While I agree this change is atrocious, it is not our job to fork mpv and make it behave differently on archlinux because we disagree with upstream.

Downstream patches merely ensure no one devotes their efforts to fixing upstream...
