Description:
I was using Thunar when it first happened. Its entire GUI froze. After pressing the [X] button multiple times, a dialog popped up asking whether I wanted to kill that unresponsive program, and I clicked YES. It closed -- `ps aux` showed that it was no longer running. So I tried to open Thunar again... and it was still frozen. The GUI shows up completely unresponsive right from the start, as if I had only minimized and maximized its window. The only workaround I have is: # killall gvfsd Killing "gvfsd" will immediately stop Thunar from freezing. The system runs fine thereafter. However, it can happen again during the same session. It happened twice today. A side effect of my workaround: the Trash icon on the desktop disappears, and it doesn't come back by toggling it in the Xfce Desktop settings. It still works if you open it within Thunar, though. There could be other side effects that I have not tested for. Things I've tried with no success: - Logout: when logging back in, the desktop takes longer to load than it normally does. The whole system seems affected by Gvfs' problem. The wallpaper is missing at first (it has a solid gray background instead). Thunar remains unresponsive. Additional info: - Gvfs version: 1.44.1-4 - Journald log attached. |

So you see, it's not exclusive to Thunar. Everything suggests this problem comes from Gvfs, although I have not located any errors that would confirm that in the logs :/
I've filed a bug report upstream: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/487
