Both programs crash. vls puts this in dmesg:
>> vlc[545]: segfault at 8 ip 00007f932c56478a sp 00007f932041c758 error 4 in libc-2.31.so[7f932c4eb000+14c000]

Same for glibc 2.30 (i've tried to upgrade glibc first).

Downgrading alsa-plugins (and lib32-alsa-plugins, but i don't think they use it) solves the problem.

Yes, same here with all sound applications.
