i just wanted to comment that more would need to be done I'm sure, and I'm willing to do it if you just point me to what.

It's a good proof-of-concept patch, but having PKGBUILDs create multiple packages would complicate the entire packaging infrastructure that we use in Arch.

I'm opting to keep it simple.
