edit: not fixed. i just got lucky with 3 clean boots in a row.

I also read kernel changelogs but still cannot find where's the problem.
There was similar reports with 2.6.20-rcX kernels, but with line 47, because #ifdef CONFIG_HIGHMEM is moved few lines below.
From what I've read it looks like it's not highmem.c that needs fixing. That bug is triggered from some other code (report was related to CryptoAPI). :-/

James, so you don't have crashes in .20 at all?
rt2500pci (included in rt2x00-cvs) is an external module, has yet to be merged to vanilla, as it's still in a CVS state.
On 2.6.19, my problems are gone upon blacklisting this driver.
