Description:
Ever since I started using 4.12.x series kernels I've experience general choppiness in gnome animations. This has been detailed in the forum discussion found here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=230149 Granted that gnome shell animations itself can be choppy in general (especially the overview), I have found that switching to an LTS kernel such as 4.9.51-lts has substantially improved the animation quality in gnome to an extent that I feel animations are acceptably smooth. Other information: I have not compiled the mainstream kernel from kernel.org. The kernels that I've tested with are kernels that I installed from arch linux repo. Steps to reproduce: 1.) Install linux 4.12.13-1 or recent kernel (less than one month old) 2.) observe low fps fade-in/out animations when opening/closing gnome applications Steps to fix: 1.) Install 4.9.51-lts linux kernel 2.) observe smooth transitions fade-in/out when opening/closing gnome applications |

Unless you can demonstrate it is a packaging or integration issue I doubt any action will be taken as a result of this bug report.

edit: Sorry, tested it on the zen kernel.
Can we close the bug?
