I download the 0.6 base CD. Its well done. To include module probe for the FTP installer was a good idea. I did a test FTP install, for the first time, and few ideas came up.

1. To speed up the install with FTP, if a selected package exists on the CD then it will be installed from CD instead of FTP.
2. Would it be possible to include the packages short description... the package names alone don't tell much about what they are / do.

Reason for closing:  Implemented
Additional comments about closing:  implemented 1, which was easy since pacman can do multiple cache directories.

2 is a bit trickier, and I agree with damir, somewhat unessessary.

1) good idea

2) if you don't know what a pkg provides, then you most probably does not need to install it at installation but can add it with pacman later

my 0x02 Rp ;-)

1. Yes, very good idea. Installer should ask, "Same version of the package requested for install from FTP was found in the local directory (CD-ROM). (It is recommended to) Use CD-ROM Installation for this package.(?) Yes || No || Yes to All || No to All"

2. I Agree with Damir Perisa.

A unionfs solution would probably work best for #1, I think Aaron said he'd look into it before this feature req gets moldy :)

This is (will be) addressed in some of the installer livecd stuff I've been throwing around with the archie/larch guys.

shouldn't we reassign this task to tpowa? i guess he can put feature request 1) into the next release. it doesn't sound that hard.

Yeah, that's a good idea.

Is this bug still relevant? If not (and from what I can tell, it isn't), it should be closed.

Simo what do you think?

Keep this open. They are good ideas and I may implement them when I tackle the installer/ISO in the next few days
