i would really like to avoid Arial, Courier New, and Times New Roman. unfortunately, the noto-fonts packages contains metrically compatible versions of those fonts.

would it be possible to split them off into their own package so they don’t get pulled in via the frameworksintegration package’s dependencies?

…also shouldn’t the package be called “ttf-noto-fonts”

Reason for closing:  Not a bug

This report is baffling to me. You think the package should be split because of some odd preference you have?

Like arojas said, you can use fontconfig, you can use NoExtract in pacman.conf, or you can maintain the package locally. I really don't see changing the package in the repos without a better reason than "I want to avoid them".

Actually the “I want to avoid them” is just an anecdote on how I discovered this: I recognized Arial on a webs site and wondered how I have it, discovering Arimo and using pacman -Qo to find where it comes from.

The reason for this report is another one: I just thought that the package “noto-fonts” should only contain fonts of the “Noto” family:

The list of fonts here doesn’t contain the other three: http://www.google.com/get/noto/

The other three are called “Arimo”, “Cousine”, and “Tinos”, not “NotoSomething”, and have a different style from the Noto family.

So IMHO this should be renamed into ttf-chromeos-fonts or the non-Noto fonts should be removed/split off. That’s reasonable, I guess?

The package ships the exact contents of a repository literally called "noto-fonts", so we're just following upstream here
