Details

Plasma 5 has dropped the support for the legacy system tray protocol, also known as XEmbed. KDE software is unaffected as it uses the new Status Notifier protocol, but other applications may not appear anymore.

Build current patched version failed for me (depends failed build self).

Without this package Skype icon is not visible in TRAY on Plasma 5 DE.

Yes, the issue is really serious, and there are (and will be upcoming years) plenty other applications using xembed protocol. I'm not the only forced to switch to another DE rather plasma-next.
