No, this is a very different error. Should the dir be owned by the root group or the games group? I don't know, but we'll need to know what other packages you have installed that own that dir.

$ pacman -Qo /var/games/
/var/games/ is owned by emacs-nox 24.4-2
/var/games/ is owned by filesystem 2014.10-3
/var/games/ is owned by nethack 3.4.3-8

filesystem sets /var/games as owned by root:games. Changed nethack in trunk to grant the same ownership.
