I believe kodi needs to conflict with xbmc. Upon trying to install it on a system with the xbmc package:

error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
kodi: /usr/bin/xbmc exists in filesystem
kodi: /usr/bin/xbmc-standalone exists in filesystem
kodi: /usr/include/xbmc exists in filesystem
kodi: /usr/lib/xbmc exists in filesystem
kodi: /usr/share/xbmc exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

It replaces xbmc, that should be enough AFAIK. Did pacman ask you to replace xbmc with kodi and say that it was going to remove xbmc?
