Description:

In version 3.17.3 and above hibernation of my system doesn't work. When I am trying to hibernate with kernel default method (no tuxonice, uswsusp, etc.) It seems that hibernation process starts as usual but in the end fails to shutdown my laptop. As a result I see blank screen and hear running fan.

I have tested hibernation with minimal number of modules and running processes (init=/bin/bash in kernel cmdline) no luck again.

Steps to reproduce:

I am running Arch Linux on Dell Studio 1535 laptop with ati video card and Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2390 @ 1.86GHz processor.

Maybe your problem is close to this one : https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/42820 ?
32 bits kernel, 3.17.2 is OK, 3.17.3 isn't.

It may be similar, however I am unable to go to the "hibernated" state unlike issue with resuming in that topic.

Nevertheless I am building a kernel without that patch and I am going to test it.

And yes, I have x64 CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo), but i686 kernel.

I can confirm that I am suffering from this patch, 3.17.4 from upstream hibernates and resumes fine !
But I have forgotten to install intel-ucode package and do related configuration to GRUB. Could it be an issue ?

Got an i5 with 686 kernel, intel-ucode is installed and syslinux configured, the issue is there.
Waiting the correction, i've added dis_ucode_ldr to the kernel boot parameters (as talked in the comments of the 42820 bug task), suspend is now OK for me.
