ardour 3.5.403-1's desktop entry points to the icon at "/usr/share/ardour3/icons/ardour_icon_48px.png". 48 pixels is rather low for modern desktop environments such as GNOME which display icons at a much higher size.

Ardour does come packaged with a 256px icon already. Is there a reason that the icons don't get installed into the standard /usr/share/icons/ directory so the desktop environment can pick the applicable resolution?

Thanks for reporting. There is no reason for this other than not bothering to stop using our own desktop file. That's mostly historic, so I will have to see what their install rules do now and make changes accordingly.

Nope, nothing's changed. The freedesktop rule doesn't work as expected. So we'll just use the larger icon.
