As of 2.14 gnome-vfs supports inotify, and seeing that the FAM package is being a PITA right now (and provides services that some might find unnecessary, and runs as root) and gamin is no longer maintained, I think it might be a good idea to compile gnome-vfs in Testing so that it can use inotify.
