Kernel downgrade solution:
Downgrade kernel to version 3.16.2 or below, and its kernel modules if any.
Boot an Arch Installation medium, and do arch-chroot, then downgrade both kernel and its modules. In my case:
$ cd /var/cache/pacman/pkg
$ pacman -U linux-3.16.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zx nvidia-340.32-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/downgrading_packages#Downgrading_the_kernel for more information about Kernel downgrade.

After a clean install the problem persisted, only downgrading to 3.16.2-1 helped. I am on a Asus k53sv Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz

Let's try to find common places. I use autofs to access cifs on the NAS in LAN. Have you some mounting environment? The thing is, there was an occasion I have turned NAS power off and haven't turned workstation power off immediately (as in common my scenario before sleeping), but the workstation was turned off after few hours, and there wasn't hang this time.

Timeouts?

Because of this bug did a re-install so i have a very clean boot. I only manually enabled netctl-auto and bumblebeed so far. I will try and see if i get any errors soon.

The problem has not been resolved in 3.16.4-1.

This problem went away after the update 3.16.4-1 but reappeared after one day. It also fails to sleep and on shutdown it tries to kill systemd-sleep.

It's been 5 months, is this still an issue with the current kernel?

I just updated and got off the lts and it seems to be working fine now :)
