2.3.6-2 doesn't include it anymore, so it is removed from CVS.

But for the current version to build, it needs it. Doesn't that mean it should still be tagged CURRENT?

2.3.6-1 is the previous testing release, 2.3.5-something is for CURRENT. I guess you need to update your checkout ;)
