possibly related to the intel driver
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60925

ive downgraded to xf86-video-intel-2.21.15-2 and will see what happens

everything is fine again with the downgraded intel driver, maybe an admin can change the bug title to xf86-video-intel

Please check for existing upstream bug or file a new one if there's no post release fix in fdo intel driver git.

Skydrome, I have the same issue with 2.99.907-2. I linked this bug now on the above upstream bug.

Issue does not exist when using uxa as AccelMethod. RSS stays at 29MB.

13 days of uptime; X memory usage is 2.7G.
According to the freedesktop bug report, this leak has been there for years, and even 2.21 has the problem (albeit leaking at a slower rate).

I initially posted FS38751, but it was closed as dupe, so I'll repeat the information here.

The memory bloat on SNA is known, and was fixed earlier today in their git repo as a pair of patches.

Comment 11 in this Ubuntu bug report contains acknowledgement that these two patches are a fix explicitly for this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1272338

The two hashes mentioned refer to:

Please check 2.99.908!

After updating to 2.99.908, my X memory usage held steady at 1.5% (low: 1.0, high: 1.9%) of 10GB RAM for this entire day. Activities include Firefox (20 windows, 79 tabs), Chromium (4 windows, 16 tabs, gmail), and about 2 hours of youtube videos. I can confirm this fixed my issue with X memory consumption. Thanks for the version bump Andreas.
