Reason for closing:  Won't implement

I can't think of a specific reason for this, but couldn't you use the regular mplayer package for vdpau support?

While that's true, I was wondering if the two packages could just be merged so there's just one mplayer package that supports both vdpau and vaapi.

It's not possible for now as vaapi patches are not upstreamed.

Bartłomiej is correct in that the mplayer package will remain vanilla and could only support vaapi if the patches get merged upstream.
