Description:

Since the upgrade to freetype2 ver. 2.5 -- my installed version is freetype2 2.5.0.1-1 -- the static library libfreetype.a is no longer provided. The package fbsplash from AUR (as an example) needs to link against this static library and will fail to build when libfreetype.a is missing.

Would it be possible to revise the PKGBUILD for this package, eliminating the --disable-static configure option, so this static library is restored? Or is there an Arch policy against including .a libraries because of increased package size, etc.?

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Good evening,

I'd like to ask that this feature request be closed.

For my problem, I was able to (finally) come up with a suitable work-around. (See my comments at https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/fbsplash/ ). Thanks for your help.
