Description:
git clone downloads the whole git history of a repo, while shallow clones can be used to limit history to just 1. This saves bandwidth, time and space. The most common use of makepkg is to, well, build packages. As such, any git repo supplied as source in PKGBUILD is cloned by makepkg. The local git repo is immediately useless after getting the working tree set-up. Why not make that clone shallow? References: Check man git-clone for --depth |
