chmod the script with chmod 755 before copying.

copy mkinitrd to /sbin/
copy hotplug to /etc/rc.d/
Add AUTODETECT=1 to /etc/rc.conf and load hotplug daemon's array
enjoy new/faster autodetection

What's wrong with lshwd? or lshw?

ok next version of hwdetect, now no need for hotplug anymore,
hwdetect handles now also PNP devices.
saves us more time on boot \o/

lshw? lshwd?
Comment by Judd Vinet (judd) - Tuesday, 15 November 2005, 02:56 GMT
hwdetect isn't bound by static tables, so it can adapt to new hardware as quickly as the kernel itself.

For example, hwdetect knows that I need the "slamr" module for my Thinkpad modem (provided by the slmodem package). lshwd doesn't know that, b/c they haven't added that specific device to their tables yet.
