Too many packages are left broken in the AUR because a) the
user doesn't know he would actually have to go to the
mailing list, b) he's too lazy or doesn't see the point
to.
A simple *Request disowning* button is what we need. It could, for example, be greyed out until the package would've been flagged for, say 1 or 2 weeks, and then you could click it and put in some sort of explanation why you'd want it for yourself. The user's e-mail from https://aur.archlinux.org/account/***/edit/ could also be auto-filled to one of the forms, which is probably the one he's gonna use anyway (the other two being the message box and the title (which could also be auto-filled with, e.g. "Automatic Removal Request for: ***" or something)). After clicking *Next* you would get the link to the AUR Mailing list and it'd also be shown in the package page. Some button for the maintainer to request for the whole thing to be cancelled would be kinda nice too, but I guess he could just send the mail himself. |
