Description: Since the xorg 1.14 and Linux 3.8 updates, Gnome-Shell has been much less stable, and changing certain settings will consistantly result in a crash. The issue started shortly after the previously mentioned updates, and my first crash was when trying to enable file manager handling the desktop. The crash that results is the one in which gnome locks up and then shows the sad face and says "something went wrong, we have disabled any extensions" and gives you the option to logout. If you try logging back in the crash mesage will continue indefinitely until restarting the computer.

Another setting that I have tried that forces the computer to give the crash message is when chaning the desktop background. With this setting it does not always occur, but it will occur about 2/3 of the time, or if changing background in quick succession.

I do not have any evidence to attibute this issue to the newer xorg server or the linux 3.8 kernel, but once those were installed is when this issue began happening.

Hi,

I also have this problem since a few days, but I don't know at all what triggers it, although I'm using two monitors.

It is awful, you cannot recover from that, even close properly windows and save documents, the gnome shell error message takes the whole screen…

I am also using two monitors. I have also noticed that the issue does not happen in gnome-fallback mode.

Hi, here is a log of my crash, it just happened after 20mn of a session and I was running libreoffice at that time.

Britt if you could do the same (it is in .cache/gdm/), we could compare.

When I get a chance I will. However, I think it's probably an incompatibility (albeit a small one) between the 3.6 gnome shell and the new xserver or radeon driver (did I mention I was running radeon lol?). Now that Gnome 3.8 is released we should see it sometime soon, at which point this issue will hopefully fix itself.

Hm, I see, ok, note that I also use radeon :)

I don't know if it's linked, but it crashed again when my computer went back from sleep.
