Details

Since [0] is implemented there is no need to add dependency to two ttf packages in vlc.
It should either be none, ideally, if a dependency package already pulls a ttf-font, or have a hard dependency on the virtual ttf-font package.

What i mean in the ideal none part above is for example similar to what Andrea proposes here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/26012#comment103355

If the xorg server itself has a dependency on ttf-font it would probably help solving quite a lot of issues like this one.

They're only optional dependencies however I think its related to these lines in the PKGBUILD:

sed -i -e 's:truetype/freefont:TTF:g' modules/text_renderer/freetype.c
sed -i -e 's:truetype/ttf-dejavu:TTF:g' modules/visualization/projectm.cpp

I have no idea why separate fonts were chosen for each or even why change it at all.
