I propose two changes to the AUR:

* After a PKGBUILD/source tarball has been uploaded
to the AUR, an automated git commit should made with the package
maintainers username (as committer) to an AUR git repo.

* That a link to a web-based git viewer (gitlist, etc) be placed
on the packages page in the AUR

Benefits
* A PKGBUILD history will, I believe, lead to better AUR PKGBUILDS
* With maintainers being able to look at current and past PKGBUILDS, the best ideas should 'bubble to the top'
* Easier for users to see changes between PKGBUILD revisions and detect a malicious maintainer

So, to be clear, I am NOT recommending that we switch to git for the AUR.
I'm just suggesting that we add an additonal, read-only, back-end to
the AUR to give packages historical perspective.

And yes, I know about PKGBUILD.com, this would be better.

This sounds similar to a previously proposed git solution [1]. Does that comment sum up your position?
