I received this error today while using pacman from testing:

error: the following file conflicts were found:
wesnoth: /usr/var: exists in filesystem
lbreakout2: /usr/var: exists in filesystem

I have downgraded to current/pacman and the packages install fine.

[root@asandrial /]# ls -ld /usr/var
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 2005-07-24 09:09 /usr/var -> ../var

[root@asandrial /]# ls -ld /var/
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 312 2005-08-19 08:13 /var/

Please try with 2.9.7-2 and see if the problem persists.
