would like to see the uuid contrib added to postgres, or
maybe an extra postgres-contrib package that will pull it
in.

If this package was in the repos already it would be easy, but
I'll look into it in a future postgresql package release.
Shouldn't be too bad to do; we can make it a makedepend and
optdepend of the package so not everyone needs to install it.
With the next 9.4 release, a UUID generation function is available
in core, making this hard-to-build module much less necessary.
Closing in anticipation of that (and since this hasn't moved in 2
years).
