xbmc is working like a charm with just a downgrade to 10.1-16, so it is a xbmc 11.0 related problem.

xbmc crashes alone, xorg stays alive ?

this looks more like an xorg failure
Comment by Ike Devolder (BlackEagle) - Thursday, 29 March 2012, 15:42 GMT
but i dont know why this is happening with xbmc 11 and not with xbmc 10

maybe some revamped use of some graphics functions

the stacktrace in the xbmc.log is missing because you don't have gdb installed.
Also try to disable VAAPI, afaik it's still pretty buggy with AMD, not sure if it even works with the open source drivers.
btw everything is working fine for me on Intel (Core i5 / Pentium G630T) and Nvidia with nouveau (G310M).

assigning to ike and sergej since I'm assuming assigning it to me and sergej was a mistake.

@tomd123:
Yes, assigning it to you was a mistake. I looked at the webpage for the community (http://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/xbmc/) instead of the community-testing package (http://www.archlinux.org/packages/community-testing/x86_64/xbmc/), which said:

Maintainers: Sergej Pupykin
Last Packager: Thomas Dziedzic

Sorry about that.

looks similiar to this: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=123714

The last two posts in this thread suggest a VAAPI problem, try to disable it.

already disabled vaapi in System -> Settings -> Video
both circles for ati and nvidea hardware accleration are unselected
Still crashes with:
