I am using Arch on an HP Slate 2. The 3.0 kernel on the
current live image works directly, wlan0 shows up in network
configuration tools and works, using the ath6kl module. (in
fact, the 3.0 kernel only works in the failsafe mode, but
that is an another problem)
However, after I did a system upgrade just now and rebooted, wireless stopped working. The reason, I see, is: "ath6kl: Failed to get board file ath6kl/AR6003/hw2.1.1/bdata.bin (-2), trying to find default board file." To fix this, in /lib/firmware/ath6k/AR6003/hw2.1.1/, I copied bdata.SD31.bin to bdata.bin, reloaded ath6kl, and it started to work. I needed to choose randomly between the three bdata.*.bin files. I assume this is a bug in either core/linux-firmware 20120227-1 or core/linux 3.2.8-1. I currently have no ability to easily copy and paste more stuff, so this shall suffice as of now. |

It does look like the problem might exist on new kernels too:
