if you read through the posted upstream bug, "thelinuxfr" says at the end, that he updated the arch package and he posts a link to his PKGBUILD change. However, if you have a look at the most recent diff, his change got removed again:
http://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/diff/?h=packages/network-manager-applet
this means that the bug still exists. I upgraded to the current package and it does not work, same errors and stuff just as expected.
pacman -Qs networkmanager
