The basic network daemon is great for computers with only one IP address, but a single wired interface can have multiple addresses and gateways (e.g. one of each for both IPv4 and IPv6). Maybe you consider that one should use netcfg for that, I apologize if this issue has already been debated. I wrote a simple implementation that introduces the variables "addresses" and "gateways" while maintaining basic retro-compatibility with the current variables "address", "netmask", "broadcast" and "gateway". network-multiple-addresses.pa...
if one needs a more sofisticated network setup you should use:
- netcfg
- networkmanager
- (wicd)
tell me if i'm wrong

Please use netcfg or networkmanager for anything more complicated.
