When a GL screensaver is selected in xscreensaver-demo, it crashes with an error message about not being able to open nvidiactl, due to wrong permissions. The permissions are actually correct, so this is misleading. Downgrading from xscreensaver-4.21-1 to 4.20-1 fixes the problem.

I realise screensavers are not usually very important, but we like to use them to show off Linux to our customers and friends.

I had this problem. Worked around it by removing the setuid bit from the xscreensaver executeable - this is not necessary when PAM is working properly. Now xscreensaver runs under my user account, and permissions work properly. Was it dropping to 'nobody' before?

no screensavers in kde are working anymore :(

fixed screensavers for kde rebuilt and patched kdeartwork

problem for this bug is probably only a permission problem on your system.
