Summary and Info:

This is a small but annoying usability problem. I use alternatively the French and English dictionary of hunspell (used in Firefox, claws-mail and other). But there is a long list of English and French variants (28 in total for two languages). As I switch from one dictionary to the other quite often, I have to look through the list each time which is annoying (claws-mail subdivide this in two submenus, all that for two languages). If someone use 3 or 4 languages, the problem could become very annoying.

I do not know exactly what the best solution is. We could subdivide the hunspell-{fr,en} package. It would be a lot of small packages but we would have to read the whole list only once at the installation. Myself I find strange to propose more than 10 dictionaries for a single language, but it is an upstream decision, not an archlinux one.

This task depends upon

Wrong project...

Splitting would become a mess, certainly not what we want.

taking a closer look at the hunspell-{fr,en} packages, there is only 3 different English dictionaries (CA GB US) and one French dictionary (FR); all others being symlinks to these. I do not understand the purpose of these symlinks. What's the point of showing 28 different dictionaries when there is only 4 ones. I would suggest to delete the symlinks.

These are genuine aliases for the dictionaries that allow users of these locales to locate the correct dictionary.
