Description:

It would be nice if the sip package would be split into sip and python-sip.
sip would contain only the /usr/bin/sip binary, and python-sip would contain the python3 bindings.
python2-sip and python-sip would depend on sip.

Isn't so simple. We've to edit every package which depends on sip and see if it needs sip or python-sip.

On second thought, sip would then contain only a binary and the license.
Maybe 3 packages are overkill after all.

sip as it is now forces you to install python 3 even if you don't need it.

Why do you need sip on your system without Python? Which project needs sip (the binary) without python?

sip has python3 and python2 bindings. I only need the python2 ones. But sip forces me to install the python3 ones along with python3.

This sounds like a problem that could be better handled by the user with ABS. (I don't really agree, but this seems to be policy.)
