Current /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf contains following line:- #!include_try /etc/dovecot/local.conf Uncommenting that allows users to store their config in /etc/dovecot/local.conf, which means on update there will be no .pacnew file etc, nor any possibility of over-written config. If you allow this setting you should know what you are doing. We ship the default vanilla config and won't change anything here.
