The PKGBUILD for git does not install gitweb.cgi. Without it, however, git instaweb doesn't work. Generally speaking, it would be nice if gitweb.cgi were available as a port of this package.

I'm not following your logic on the git instaweb part. It works absolutely fine for me, did you try it? What was the result? The entire thing is packaged up in /usr/lib/git-core/git-instaweb.

With that said, we have already had bugs in the past saying this *shouldn't* be included. See  FS#14508 .

You are right, git instaweb does have an embedded version of the CGI script. I didn't realize that. I am sorry.

Regarding  FS#14508 , you seem to misunderstood what that bug report was about. gitweb.cgi is the build product that's generated from gitweb.perl, and that is the script I'd like to have installed. Previous versions of the git package, however, installed gitweb.perl. That was a mistake, IMHO, and I reported that. Instead, gitweb.cgi should be installed. I still believe that this is the right thing to do.

So ... I guess this task is going to be ignored for decades to come, right?

The next major version of git is going to always install this automatically, so I'm just going to wait for that to be released and also try and address  FS#19822  after that.
