Avahi is not binatily linked to CUPS.
Arch Linux CUPS actual package is working fine for me without it. It should not be a dependency anymore, it should be in optdepends for those who want to discover printers in their network. Avahi is not the only way for CUPS to work, people can also connect printers locally attached or through Samba. |

The binary package doesn't have any references to avahi, and it's
not a runtime dependency either, as I don't have avahi running.
Either support for avahi is not compiled into cups, or cups uses
other methods for device discovery. As long as no avahi libs are
linked into cups, this should not be a dependency.
